Walker-Turner 6810 Jointer
Walker-Turner only ever made one 8 in jointer, and it came late. Rockwell bought the company in May 1956 and closed the Plainfield plants in 1957, and in January 1958 the Walker-Turner Division of Rockwell announced the No. 6810 Light-Heavyweight 8 in jointer. It has a 5-1/2 ft bed on dovetailed ways, a 4 x 34 in fence that tilts both ways and a three-knife head at 5,175 RPM in sealed bearings. The brochure even gives Delta part numbers for the cutterhead and knives, which shows how close the two lines had become under Rockwell. That's handy now, because Delta 8 in knives fit. Walker-Turner's earlier jointers were 4 and 6 in, so any 8 in Walker-Turner is this one.

Power, iron, fence and freight
- Power and phase
- Walker-Turner's 1958 brochure offered 3/4 HP capacitor or 1 HP repulsion-induction single-phase motors at 115/230 V, or 3/4 and 1 HP three-phase motors with manual or magnetic starters. Read the phase and voltage off the motor plate. A three-phase one needs a VFD or a phase converter on house power.
- Motor and bearings
- The cutterhead runs in sealed ball bearings lubricated for life. Ask for a short video with the motor on. It should hum steadily without a rumble or a knock.
- Table and rust
- The tables are 9 x 66 in on dovetailed ways. Ask for a photo with a straightedge on the outfeed table reaching over the infeed. It should touch both with no gap.
- Fence, guards and gauges
- The fence is 4 x 34 in and tilts 45 degrees both ways, with stops at 90 and 45. Check that it's there with the cutterhead guard.
- Trunnions and adjustments
- Ask the seller to raise and lower both tables on video. They should move smoothly on the ways and lock.
- Blades and knives
- The brochure lists Delta's No. 37-810 cutterhead and No. 37-308 knives, the same parts as Delta's 8 in jointers. So knives and cutterheads made for the Delta 8 in fit this one too.
- Dating it
- The 6810 came out in January 1958, after Rockwell bought Walker-Turner in 1956 and moved production out of Plainfield in 1957. Walker-Turner never made an 8 in jointer before that, so any 8 in Walker-Turner is a Rockwell-era machine. Later Rockwell badges date by Delta's serial tables.
- Moving it
- It weighs 272 lb without the stand or motor, and the stand is 58 lb. Move the jointer and stand separately and strap the tables down.
- Safety upgrades
- Make sure the cutterhead guard is there and swings back over the head. Use push blocks for every pass.

So ask for the model plate or a tape across the table, since a 6810 is 8-1/16 in wide on a 66 in bed. It's the only one for sale, $600 with no shipping quoted. The 6810 came single- or three-phase, so get the motor plate. Delta's 8 in knives fit a 6810, and it's 272 lb without the stand.
