Powermatic · Band saw · by 1962 to the late 1990s
From the early 1960s Powermatic sold two 14 in band saws side by side. The 141 cut wood. The 143 was the combination machine for wood and metal, with the same idea of a one-piece cast-iron frame plus a two-speed oil-bath gearbox and a four-step pulley, so it runs from a crawl of 40 feet per minute for steel up to 3,000 for wood. Powermatic's 1962 bulletin called the frame massive, and at 340 lb with its stand it's built like it. It was still in the 1998 catalog. A woodworker who sometimes cuts aluminum or steel won't find many band saws like it, as long as the gearbox works, and the 15 x 15 in tilting table and steel guides are proper shop gear.

Hard to find if missing
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing fence, guard or motor should come off the price.
The gearbox needs oil and can be damaged if it's run dry. Tires harden and guides wear, and many saws were sold without a fence or miter gauge.
New to old iron? How to check a used woodworking machine covers runout, the table, bearings and the parts that go missing, and shipping a heavy machine covers freight, pickup and rigging it into the shop.
Buying guide
The 143 runs through a gearbox, so ask whether it has oil and for a video of it running in both speed ranges. Only two are listed. We'd look at the $700 one, with both wheel covers on and the table in place, since the other is a zero-feedback account at $750. Neither gives a phase, so get the motor plate. It's about 340 lb with the stand, so drain the gearbox or keep it upright in the trailer.
$700.00+ ship
Both wheel covers are on and the table's in place, and it's the $700 one of the pair. The motor plate settles the phase.
