Craftsman · Jointer · 1960s to the mid-1980s
Sears sold the Craftsman 6-1/8 in jointer-planer for a quarter of a century, built by Emerson Electric under the 113 source code. The first 113 jointers appear in the 1960s, after Sears' earlier 103-series jointers by King-Seeley, and dated manuals run through the 1970s to the mid-1980s. It's a simple machine. Three high-speed steel knives sit in a head on grease-packed ball bearings, turning about 4,300 RPM from a 3,450 RPM motor, over a bed owners measure at about 36 in. Sears sold it bare or with steel legs and a motor. The short bed limits how long a board it'll straighten, but for a garage shop that mostly works boards a few feet long, a complete 113 with its guard is a cheap, easy start at jointing.

Hard to find if missing
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing fence, guard or motor should come off the price.
Short beds make long boards hard to joint, and tables can droop if the ways are worn. Missing guards and dull knives are common.
New to old iron? How to check a used woodworking machine covers runout, the table, bearings and the parts that go missing, and dating old iron by serial number shows how to tell what year a machine was made.
Buying guide
Drooping tables and missing guards are the usual 113 faults, so ask for a straightedge across both tables and a photo of the guard swinging back over the knives. Only one 113 is for sale, a 6 in on steel legs at $160. No motor shows, and Sears called for a 1/2 or 3/4 HP 3,450 RPM one, so ask if it comes with one. The other listing is a 1950s 4 in 103-series, the King-Seeley jointer Sears sold before the 113.
