A lot of garages had a Craftsman floor drill press, and the 113 models Emerson Electric built are the ones you'll see most. The two best documented are the 15-1/2 in 113.21371 of the 1970s and the 15 in 113.213853 of 1988, which has twelve belt speeds from 300 to 4,600 RPM and came with a 1/2 HP motor in the box. The chuck presses onto a tapered spindle nose and a locking collar holds it on, instead of a Morse taper, so check that it's there and runs true. They aren't industrial drill presses, but a straight, complete one on a household outlet does what most woodworkers need a drill press for.

Power and phase: Sears shipped these with a 1/2 HP 1,725 RPM motor at 110-120 V, so they run on a household outlet. A look at the motor plate in the photos confirms it.
Motor and bearings: Ask for a video of it running on a few belt speeds. It should run without the belt slapping or the spindle chattering.
Runout: The chuck is pressed onto a tapered nose and held by a locking collar, not seated in a Morse taper. Ask the seller to chuck a straight bit and spin it. It should run without visible wobble.
Table and rust: Ask for a photo of the table and base. Light rust cleans up, but a cracked table or a column bent from a fall doesn't.
Fence, guards and gauges: A drill press has no fence of its own. Check the photos for the chuck and its key, and the belt cover.
Trunnions and adjustments: Ask the seller to feed the quill all the way down and let it go. It should return smoothly, and the table should crank up the column and lock.
Blades and knives: It takes ordinary drill bits in its chuck. A replacement chuck has to fit the tapered nose, so a missing or damaged chuck is the part to check.
Dating it: The model and serial are at the back of the head on the 113.213853. Dated manuals put the 113.21371 in the 1970s and the 113.213853 in 1988. Earlier Craftsman drill presses carry 103 (King-Seeley) numbers.
Moving it: We couldn't find a total weight, but the 113.21371 manual says the head alone is about 65 lb. Take the head off the column before you move it.
